When I look at this photo I can’t help but imagine what it would be like to fire up the Flux Capacitor, change my name to Calvin Klein and go back in time to be a fly on the wall at this meeting of the OG Napa Vintners

Inspiration

Was there something magical about that time? The 1940s, 50s, and 60s. Maybe not. But there was, undoubtedly, an esprit de corps that energized, galvanized, and formed the very foundation that we have the honor to stand upon. Whereas they were drawn to the idea of Napa as a world-class wine region and its future, we are called to harken back the very wines these fellas made.

Founding Members of the Napa Valley Vintners, including Louis M. Martini, John Daniel Jr., Charles Forni and Louis Stralla

Archer & Byrd Cabernet Sauvignon

“Enjoy now or cellar confidently for decades. From a dry‑farmed, organically grown, no‑till vineyard atop blue shale and ancient seabed soils, this wine honours Mt Veeder conservationists Drs Archer Taylor and Hasseltine Byrd, who preserved 161 ha of nearby redwood forest. With over‑wintering cattle and wildlife corridors, the site exemplifies regenerative farming, overseen by Tomas Comme Farming.”

Ghost Block Cabernet Sauvignon

“Balanced, with great presence and sheer drinkability, it’s a wine to enjoy now while the Coombsville and Mt. Veeder cuvées continue to slumber in the cellar. From a CCOF organically farmed vineyard that sits on the lower slopes of “Yountville Hill,” a former mountain peak that once towered above the Stags Leap District.”

Glass Rock Cabernet Sauvignon

“From a dry-farmed, organically grown, non-hedged, no-till vineyard that sits along the stairstep of another nested megaslide. The soils offer a geological mosaic of silica-rich rock—ranging from red jasper to white quartz to multi-coloured agate. Over-wintering cows and dedicated habitat corridors make this site a model for truly regenerative farming. This marks the first release from the 7-acre Glass Rock site.”

Granite Lake Cabernet Sauvignon

“From a vineyard that sits on the side of Howell Mountain, literally straddling a peak. Perched at 2,097 feet along the ridgeline facing into Napa Valley, the site is defined by iron-rich, volcanic, and severely depleted soils. Organically farmed, no-till, and surrounded by forest. … This is a wine that harkens back to the Howell Mountain wines of Lee Stewart’s original Château Souverain. Just gorgeous.”
