Coombsville

Glass Rock

Glass Rock lies on the flank of another Nested Megaslide, a geologic upheaval that occurred in the southern Vaca Range some eight million years ago—the same cataclysmic event that created Ghost Block to the north. But while Ghost Block rests on a displaced mountain peak, Glass Rock is perched along the outer rings of the slide, forming concentric circles reminiscent of a caldera.

This vineyard is undeniably the beating heart of Coombsville, defined by cold, wind-swept slopes and porous volcanic soils that span the spectrum from iron-rich lava rock to jet-black obsidian. Mixing this terroir with our farming and winemaking approach gives us a wine that is red-fruited; strawberry, cranberry, and glacier cherry dotted with a savory, salty, sea-spray intensity.

  • 96 points | "Red berry notes range from crunchy to fleshy, yet all are juicy and bright, interlaced with lifted crushed stone minerality and gentle Indian spice tones of curry and coriander"

Decanter | “The wine vividly reflects the vintage, showing zesty, electric energy and beautifully pure fruit with a distinct red hue. Red berry notes range from crunchy to fleshy, yet all are juicy and bright, interlaced with lifted crushed stone minerality and gentle Indian spice tones of curry and coriander. A perfumed violet lift and fabulous saline acidity carry the wine through a long, resonant finish. The tannins are softer, more generous, and more integrated in this vintage, while the freshness factor is off the charts. Drink 2026-2050 Alc 12.3%” Pilcrow, Glass Rock, Coombsville 2023

  • 93 points | "Cassis and blueberries appear on the nose ... It's racy and fresh, with a long finish framed by silky tannins"

Robert Parker Wine Advocate | “From a Coombsville site, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Glass Rock weighs in at just 12.3% alcohol, but it shows slightly darker fruit than the Archer & Byrd wine from Mount Veeder. Cassis and blueberries appear on the nose of this medium-bodied effort. It's racy and fresh, with a long finish framed by silky tannins.” May 07, 2026

  • 94 points | "hints of dusty earth with dark fruit. Medium-bodied and silky smooth in texture"

Robert Parker Wine Advocate | “Pilcrow's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Glass Rock combines cedary notes and hints of dusty earth with dark fruit. Medium-bodied and silky smooth in texture, it finishes long, framed by softly dusty tannins. This is one 2022 that doesn't seem to show any ill effects from the heat spell that defines the vintage—it may even be better for it.” May 07, 2026
