Lee Stewart just may be the most important Napa Valley winemaker you’ve never heard of. He championed Howell Mountain from his perch at the original Chateau Souverain.

Inspiration

J. Leland "Lee" Stewart picked his first crop from his Howell Mountain vineyard in 1944. In the years that followed, Stewart used innovation, meticulous standards and his natural gift for winemaking to entrench the valley’s potential and teach the “next gen” of vintners including Winiarski, Grgich, and Mondavi.

Granite Lake Cabernet Sauvignon

“From a vineyard that sits on the side of Howell Mountain, literally straddling a peak. Perched at 2,097 feet along the ridgeline facing into Napa Valley, the site is defined by iron-rich, volcanic, and severely depleted soils. Organically farmed, no-till, and surrounded by forest. This is a wine that harkens back to the Howell Mountain wines of Lee Stewart’s original Château Souverain. Just gorgeous.”
